Please join the National Partnership Office and National Forest Foundation for an upcoming peer learning session focused on funding and administrative challenges related to visitor centers and interpretive associations. The objectives of this session will be to: (1) discuss innovations in visitor center funding and administration; (2) discuss ways to increase the sustainability and relevance of visitor centers; and (3) explore the advantages of working with partners to provide visitor center programs.

We have a great line-up of speakers:

  • Terry Terry, Program Specialist with the Southern Regional Office, will provide an overview of the results of visitor center assessments in the region.
  • Jeffrey Owenby, Cradle of Forestry Director/Recreation Staff, will share maintenance and engineering outcomes and lessons learned from the visitor center assessments in the Southern Region and will describe the process of developing a collaborative business plan for Blanchard Springs Caverns.
  • Cheryl Hazlitt, Interpretive Planner and recent acting Manager, Center for Design & Interpretation, will discuss outcomes from an assessment of the El Portal Visitor Center in relation to relevant messaging and renovations.
  • Last but not least, Rika Nelson, Executive Director of Discover Your Forest, a partner in the Pacific Northwest Region, will discuss their innovative partnership agreements for staffing visitor centers.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about visitor center management and the important role of partnerships. Bring your questions and ideas!

Please note that this session starts at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Thursday, May 4th, 2017.  This is one of a series of peer learning sessions for the Partnership Network, sponsored by the National Partnership Office and offered in cooperation with the National Forest Foundation.
